LAPONITE-RDS

LAPONITE RDS is a synthetic layered silicate incorporating an inorganic polyphosphate peptiser that hydrates and swells in water to give clear and colourless colloidal dispersions known as sols. At 10% concentration in water, these sols will remain free flowing for 24 hours. On addition of small quantities of electrolyte, highly thixotropic gels are formed rapidly. This property of LAPONITE RDS makes it suitable for applications in the advanced materials industry where uniform dispersion of fillers and formation of stable gels are required. LAPONITE RDS imparts a shear sensitive structure and can be coated onto surfaces from concentrated sols to give smooth, coherent, and electrically conductive films beneficial for applications involving surface coatings and films in advanced material development.
